Experienced Professional Known for Innovative Youth Programs Tapped for Important Role

ATLANTA - Big Brothers Big Sisters of Metro Atlanta (BBBSMA), the long standing, influential youth mentoring organization, has named Aliya Bhatia as their new Vice President of Program Services. Aliya brings a wealth of innovative, non-profit sector experience and a proven track record of success to this critical role. Aliya most recently served on the founding team to launch Purpose Built Schools Atlanta, a partnership with Atlanta Public Schools, providing management services for underperforming schools. In her three years there, the organization had grown to serve 1,700 Atlanta students along with several schools in other U.S. communities.

Aliya has also worked as a strategy consultant at the Boston Consulting Group, and as a high school math teacher in New Orleans. The executive leadership of BBBSMA was impressed by Aliya’s distinguished professional experience, and her sterling reputation in the community. “Aliya has a clear passion for children and families in the metro Atlanta region and views mentorship as a pillar of her work,” said Kwame Johnson, President and CEO of BBBSMA. “Her experience in building and growing organizations that focus on youth will help us take Big Brothers Big Sisters of Metro Atlanta into its next chapter.”

Aliya received her Masters in Public Policy from Harvard Kennedy School as a Sheila C. Johnson Leadership Fellow. Her undergraduate degree is from the School of Foreign Service at Georgetown University. She is a metro Atlanta native and grew up in DeKalb County. “Mentorship is at the core of who I am, how I learn, and how I serve,” she says. “I am thrilled to join Big Brothers Big Sisters of Metro Atlanta, where I will have the opportunity to use that passion for mentorship to support youth facing adversity across Atlanta.”
