One of the goals of creating a successful match is to have the parents engaged in the match as well. This secures even better outcomes and helps to pinpoint where the one-to-one mentoring friendship needs to have its focus.
On July 23, BBBSMA hosted a parent engagement workshop where families learned about the significance of being engaged in the match – giving updates to BBBSMA and keeping track of match activities and progresses to name a few things that are important. While parents attended the workshop the accompanying kids had their own little creative workshop where they solved puzzles and did fun quizzes.
The workshop was followed two weeks later by a Parent Meetup that focused on Academic Coaching. The workshop was led by Meg Tanner whose academic coaching can be reached here. Parents learned how to help their children with homework and how to nurture an environment of learning and educational development.
