Big Brothers Big Sisters of Metro Atlanta Launches New Website

Atlanta, GA (January 19, 2009) – Big Brothers Big Sisters of Metro Atlanta (BBBS) announced the launch of their new website located at www.BBBSATL.org. The mission of Big Brothers Big Sisters of Metro Atlanta is to transform the lives of children through professionally-supported, one-to-one mentoring relationships with caring, well-trained volunteers. The newly developed website allows BBBS to directly connect with volunteers, supporters, and potential mentors in the Web 2.0 design.  The site includes social networking tools for Bigs to build deeper relationships within the community of volunteers while helping BBBS continue to educate, train, engage, motivate, and retain mentors. Other features of the site include the ability for mentors to post their profiles, blog,  search for activities to do with other matches, upload videos, and share photos of their experiences as Big Brothers or Big Sisters.

BBBS selected Atlanta-based web development and interactive marketing firm ShockTheory for the development of the site. This firm, best known for its in-depth knowledge of social networking and building of sites that engage users to generate content and organically stimulate the amount of time consumers spend on websites, has historically worked on highly engaging projects like Burger King’s “My Song, My Way” online video contest during the Super Bowl and the seasonal lifestyle portal AllStarWeek.com.

BBBS currently serves more than 2,800 children annually, with an additional 1,000 young boys between the ages of 6 -12 on the waiting list to be matched with a caring adult male friend and advisor.
