Mentoring through a School Partnership

Our school partnerships are collaborations between corporations and social groups and Big Brothers Big Sisters of Metro Atlanta, Inc. (BBBS), along with local elementary or middle schools. Each group promotes a mentoring program and works through BBBS to facilitate the program. Volunteers serve as mentors in one-to-one relationships with children to provide adult friendship, academic encouragement, guidance, and social development. BBBS provides on-going support and supervision to the mentor, child, and parent. The program provides varying levels of participation. Ways to partner as mentors are as follows:

School-based Programs

School-based mentors spend one (1) hour per week with a student anytime during school hours. Mentors are welcome to attend school-wide events held throughout the year. Volunteer commitment is a minimum of one academic year.

Community-based Programs

Community-based mentors may work with the child one-on-one on or off the school campus. This allows the mentor to enjoy activities with his/her mentee in the evenings or on weekends. For those who opt to fully interact with their mentees outside of school, we ask that mentors spend time with their student at least twice per month. Volunteer commitment is one calendar year.
